When making a piece that you want to close up, like a head, I use the following method to sew the hole closed at the end. You will usually end with a round of 6 stitches and the pattern might say “sew the hole closed and sew in the end” – this method is quite simple and you get a really good result; you can hardly see where the hole was.

Finish the final round, the picture above has 6 stitches on the final round

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail…

Pull the tail end out through the top of the last stitch

Thread your yarn needle with the tail end

You’ll be using the front loops only of the stitch for this method – the front loops are the ones closest to you

Insert your yarn needle through the front loop of stitch 1, going inside to outside – pull it all the way through but don’t pull tight yet, we’ll do this at the end…

Do the same for each stitch (inside to outside using front loop only x 6)

Gently pull the yarn tight and the hole will close up

Fasten off with a knot…

Insert the needle back into the head (under the knot) and pull it out an inch or so away, cut the end and squish the head around a little to hide it

All finished!
