Colour Change

I use the following colour change technique for single crochet (US terminology);

1. Start the last stitch in yarn1

2. Yarn1 over and pull back through as normal

3. Yarn2 over hook

4. Pull yarn2 through both loops to complete the stitch

5. Insert your hook into next stitch and pull yarn2 through

6. Continue stitching in yarn2

If there are several colour changes in the coming rounds you can either cut the yarn and knot/sew in each time, or keep the yarn running along the back of the piece and pull tight after each colour change. When you pick that yarn up again for the next colour change, it should run nicely against the back of the piece but not pulled too tightly because this could alter the shape of the piece.

Back of piece

  • If the stitch is double crochet (US) pull the new colour through on the second (last) part of the stitch (yarn1 over, hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull back through, yarn1 over, pull through 2 loops, yarn2 over, pull through last 2 loops)
  • If the stitch is half-double crochet (US) pull the new colour through on the last part of the stitch (yarn1 over, hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull back through, yarn2 over, pull through all 3 loops)
  • If the stitch is dec pull the new colour through on the last part of the stitch (hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull back through, hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull back through, yarn2 over, pull through all 3 loops)
